Founded: 1915 as Cramerton

Incorporated: 1967

Former Name: Mayworth

Roots: Developed around Mays Mill.

Historic sites: Former Cramerton Junior High, built in 1922, is being renovated into 40 senior apartments; Cramerton Town Hall constructed in 1918.

Famous sons: Stuart Cramer, who bought Mays Mill and turned it and the surrounding community into a model mill village.

Population: 2000 census 2,976; NC State Demographer 2008 estimated population: 3,353

Tax rate: 47.5 cents per $100 valuation
