Chartered in 1964 as part of the North Carolina Community College System, Gaston College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees.
Serving both Gaston and Lincoln counties, the main campus is on Highway 321 between Gastonia and Dallas. The college also has campuses in Lincolnton and Belmont and operates a Regional Emergency Services Training Center used by fire, police and emergency medical services organizations.
Gaston College serves more than 5,000 students each term in curriculum programs and averages more than 16,000 students annually in continuing education programs.
The East Campus and Textile Technology Center in Belmont became part of Gaston College in 2005. It was founded in 1941 as the North Carolina Vocational Textile School and was later renamed the N.C. Center for Applied Textile Technology. The center does new and sample product development, product testing, training and consulting for the textile industry. Numerous continuing education classes and some curriculum classes are offered on the campus. A planned addition to the Classroom Buiding will allow for a substantial increase in the number of curriculum classes offered on the Belmont campus.
